This holiday season, all of our Supporters are entered to win an $800 Shopping Spree Giveaway!

Police will be out in full force conducting road checks throughout the month. Impaired driving suspensions, vehicle impoundments and fines all start at 0.06 blood alcohol concentration (BAC). If your blood alcohol concentration is in the “warn” range (0.05 to 0.08 BAC) as tested by a roadside screening device, a first offence will result in a three-day driving prohibition, $200 fine, a three-day vehicle impoundment at the tow company’s rate, and a $250 driver’s licence reinstatement fee, which adds up to at least $600.

A second offence results in a seven-day driving prohibition, $300 fine, vehicle impoundment and driver’s licence reinstatement fee, adding up to at least $760. For a third or more offence within a five-year period, the result is a 30-day driving prohibition, a $400 fine, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, enrolment in the Responsible Drivers Program, installation of an ignition interlock system for one year, and a driver’s licence reinstatement fee, adding up to at least $3,960 in costs.

Impaired drivers could also be arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and possible receive a criminal record.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and ensure there is a designated driver if planning to consume alcohol. Alcohol affects judgment, reaction time, coordination, and the ability to steer, track moving objects, brake, and control speed and reaction time.

Anyone who witnesses an impaired driver is urged to call 9-1-1 right away. The public is asked to use sound judgment this holiday season and help keep the roads of Dawson Creek safe.
