Fitzgerald says the bus driver is not back to work yet, as he suffered a broken bone in his foot and severe lacerations to his scalp in the crash. There is now a replacement bus on the route with a new driver.
He’s told by the bus driver that the young girl who was injured in the crash is back home, and wants to return to school on the last day before winter break to wish Merry Christmas to her friends and teachers.
By request of Fort St. John RCMP, last Friday Fitzgerald took a school bus out to the crash site in the early morning to conduct some tests. He checked things like stop distance and sight distance to help establish some of the conditions of the collision.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and it may be some time before any results are known.
