The operation was acquired by Canfor in 2004 when it was the province’s largest plywood facility.
At this time, Canfor will also be shutting down the Rustad Sawmill in Prince George, where operations shut down in 2009. Remaining employees at both mills will receive severance pay.
The company will instead focus on a $300 million capital-investment plan for facilities that can be improved with smaller amounts of spending than the two northern mills required. There is no word yet on what will happen with the closed Tackama Mill.
