Compared to the same time last year, the local unemployment rate was significantly higher at 6.6 per cent.

Northeast B.C. still has the lowest unemployment rate in the province with the next closest in Kamloops, Chilliwack and Victoria.

As for the rest of the province the unemployment rate increased to 7.0 per cent  up from 6.6 in November.

The province followed a trend right across the country as the unemployment rate increased by one tenth of a percent of 7.4 per cent.  Canada lost 18,600 jobs in the last month causing the slight increase.

Alberta has the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 5.0 per cent, followed by Saskatchewan at 5.1.
