The public is invited down to the clinic between 12 and 3 p.m. to have professional photographer Kathy Therrien with Reflections Portrait Studio take a picture of their beloved pet beside the jolly man in the red suit. Each pet that participates will also receive a holiday-themed bandana, as well as some treats for the dogs and cats.
This is the seventh year the clinic has offered the photo opportunity, and Rebecca Moeller, vice president of public relations for the clinic, said it continues to grow in popularity.
“Last year we had close to 70 pets come and get their photo taken with Santa,” said Moeller. “It’s a pretty busy day, and we actually had to add an hour this year because we knew we would have to have it.”
She said there are quite a few dogs and cats that are brought in for photos, but they’ve also had rabbits and even horses brought in as well. She added some people will even dress up their animals in holiday attire for the photos.
Participation in the photo shoot is by cash donation, either to the Dawson Creek Veterinary Clinic/SPCA Spay and Neuter Program, or the Tumbler Ridge Christmas Food Hamper Program. Moeller said they have had a lot of participants from Tumbler Ridge, so they wanted to offer those people a chance to give to a local cause.
She added the clinic requests that cats and dogs be restrained wither by carrier or by leash to prevent any scuffles with other animals. More information on the event can be obtained by calling the Dawson Creek Veterinary Clinic at 250-782-5616.
