That’s miles ahead of neighbouring cities, and only includes online donations.
According to movember.com, 166 Fort St. John residents signed up to take part, and have raised a total of $23,386 in online donations as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The clear front runner in donations is Neil Evans, who has raised $8,665 so far, with more to come. Two other residents have raised over $1,000 individually.
While the city hasn’t yet matched its goal of beating its $27,000 in donations last year, the totals available online don’t include cheques and cash that still need to be mailed in, as well as donations collected at local businesses. Marc Joseph Clothing Store still needs to calculate the total number of purchases, as it was donating a dollar from each, and Patch Java needs to tally the 10 per cent from each purchase from someone participating in Movember.
There is still a day and a half to donate, and two events to raise money at. Tonight, proceeds from a poker tournament at Remedies Lounge will be added to the funds raised, the final weekly game of the month. Finally, the Lido Theatre is hosting the Official Movember Wrap-Up Party tomorrow, November 30, at 7:00 where last minute donations can be made as the participants show off their hard earned staches.
All funds raised go to Prostate Cancer Canada for research, education, support and awareness for prostate cancer. For more information or to donate, visit www.movember.com.
