The ski hill will host its “Bear Wear Silent Auction” from 2 to 6 p.m., using the cute, cuddly, and stuffed bears to raise money for a new ski lift.
“We have 20 bears that have been sponsored by 20 different companies,” said Paul Gevatkoff, president of the Bear Mountain Ski Club. “The bears will be dressed up in costumes, and there will certain value-added things with them. We will be judging the bears, and one of them will win a trophy, and then we will be auctioning the bears off.”
He credits Tara Morgan, manager of the Dawson Creek Chamber of Commerce, for coming up with the idea after seeing a similar fundraiser in Victoria.
“I hope when can turn it into an annual event, because it’s a neat activity, and hopefully it will get out some interest from the community and create more awareness about the ski hill,” he added.
The event will be free to attend, and parents are encouraged to bring their little ones with them for a special visit from Santa Claus, as well some holiday treats. The concession will also be open that afternoon.
