The tree that has been erected at the Mile 0 Marker in downtown Dawson Creek will be a whole lot lovelier this evening as the South Peace Oilmens Association and the City of Dawson Creek present the 20th annual “Christmas Tree Light-Up.” The public is invited to come down and help kick-off the holiday season in the city by counting down to the tree light-up, while also enjoying some festive music, treats and more.
Several local businesses will be helping to make it a great evening for everyone to enjoy. The CIBC branch, for example, will once again be supplying the hot chocolate free of charge. Dawson Creek Realty will provide hot apple cider and Santa hats for the children, also free of charge. They will also be collecting donations for the local food bank, so those who attend are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items with them to the event.
M&M Meat Shops will be providing some hot food and beverages as well, with proceeds going to the Mother Goose Preschool at 925 104 Avenue.
Patrons of the downtown area will begin to notice some holiday music playing at around 6 p.m. However, the festivities really begin around 7 p.m. with some words from invited dignitaries, some live entertainment, and perhaps even a very special visit from a certain jolly man in a red suit, all leading up to the light-up itself.
The festivities take place at the intersection of 102 Avenue and 10 Street. Those who attend are encouraged to bundle up as Environment Canada is forecasting a low of minus 21 degrees Celsius heading into this evening.
