On Saturday, Nov.12, the Flyers took to the ice against the Peace River Fountain Tire Bantam A Sabres, beating the Sabres 6-2 in a solid team effort. The Bantam boys opened the scoring first, with Nolan Legace scoring 90 seconds into the first period, for a 1-0 Flyers lead. However, the lead wouldn’t last long, as the Sabres tied the game at ones, a score which carried over into the second period.
The tie was broken in the second, as consecutive goals from Gavin Gould, Alexander Breuning and Nolan Legace within a six minute span, put the Flyers in charge with a 4-2 lead entering the third.
Another two goals by the Flyers would propel the Bantam boys to a season opening 6-2 victory. Lane Delfs earned the first win of the season in net.
Sunday saw a very similar game take place between the Flyers and the Grande Prairie Knights. Despite a scoreless first period, the flood gates were opened in the second. Once the Flyers scored the games first goal in the second period, the goals kept pouring in, giving the Flyers a 4-0 lead entering the third period.
It was much of the same in the third, as the Flyers scored once more to take a 5-0 lead. Unfortunately, an unlucky bounce with less than five minutes left in the game robbed Seth Hanna of his first shutout of the year, although he still earned the win in net.
The Flyers will now hit the road for an extended road trip, and will return to the Energetic City on Dec. 2-4 for the team’s home tournament.
