Huskies suffer third straight loss in weekend double-header

Game one took place Saturday, Nov.12, when the two teams clashed for some evening hockey. Game one was a close game, that unfortunately the Huskies lost by a score of 5-4. The game began with Whitecourt striking first, only 1:26 into the opening frame. The Huskies however, answered back roughly three minutes later, as Cole Calliou tied the game at ones, a score that would stick until the end of the period.

It only took three seconds into the second for Fort St. John to take the lead. Huskies rookie Dave Marshell scored to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage. The quick goal seemed to spark the Wolverines, who scored twice before the 2:30 mark of the second for a 3-2 lead.

Continuing the back and forth trend, the Huskies evened the score at threes at the 5:44 mark of the second. With the Huskies on the penalty kill, Connor Rose scored a short-handed goal, sending the game into the third with the teams deadlocked at three all.

The Huskies began the third on the power play, and put their impressive power play to use, scoring only 20 seconds into the third. The power play marker can off the stick of Dave Marshell, his second of the game, for a 4-3 Huskies lead. Unfortunately, it would be the power play that would eventually lead to the Huskies loss, as the Wolverines scored twice more in the frame, both on the power play, for the 5-4 final.

Sunday, Nov. 12, the teams met once again at the North Peace Arena for some matinee hockey. Huskies forward Kole Norris kick-started the scoring, putting the biscuit in the basket only 1:31 into the first.

Unfortunately, for the home town Huskies, Norris’ goal only seemed to spark the Wolverines' offence, as the visiting team scored six unanswered goals throughout the game, for a 6-2 final.

Next on the schedule for Fort St. John is a busy weekend, where the team plays three days in a row. Friday, Nov. 18, the Huskies will play host to the league’s worst Beaverlodge Blades. Saturday, Nov. 19, the Pups will mush to Sexsmith, to take on the Vipers, then Sunday, Nov. 20, the team is back home for a Sunday afternoon game against the league leading Peace River Navigators.
