Support Fort St John News

NMPT is made up of almost 30 municipalities and regional districts. EnCana’s donation has been divided between Fort St. John, Chetwynd and Fort Nelson to help the cities attract students.

The trust supports students in the Northern Medical Program and the UNBC Family Nurse Practitioner program who spend part of their training in rural practices. One of the graduates from the first group of Northern Medical Program, Dr. Jennifer Parker, set up practice in Fort St. John last year.

UNBC President George Iwama says the trust will help other graduates train closer to home.

“We’ll see many similar stories in the future thanks to the support students receive from the Trust to experience what it’s really like to live and work in the North.”

During 2011/2012, approximately $150,000 in student awards is being given out. The NMPT endowment is currently valued at approximately $6.5 million.
