Sport BC to recognize five Community Sport Heroes from Dawson Creek

The public is encouraged to come down and help celebrate these local sports heroes at the EnCana Events Centre as Mayor Mike Bernier will present them with their awards and gifts.

The following individuals were selected by their peers to receive the 2011 Community Sport Hero Awards for their dedication to their respective sports: Connie Patterson for skating, Christina Wards for multiple sports, Don Bourassa for curling, Ted Schilds for hockey and Andrew Kadziolka for skiing.

“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Tim Gayda, president and CEO of Sport BC, in a statement. “Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the five scheduled to be honoured, are essential to that success.”

The awards ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Dawson Creek is the 11th stop this year for Sport BC’s Community Sport Hero Awards, which are presented by EnCana.
