Huskies fall to the Grande Prairie Kings

Trailing just 1-0 after the first period, it didn’t take long for the flood gates to open in the second. Ryan Trudeau scored just 56 seconds in to the middle frame, and Corey Wamsteeker made it 3-0 just 11 seconds after that, on route to a 10-1 shellacking of the Pups. Ryan, along with his brother, Nolan, combined for 8 points in the contest, with each player collecting 1 goal and 3 assists.

Trenton Forshner picked up the loan goal for the Huskies, with 4:30 remaining in the middle frame. It was a goal that Kings ‘tender Nolan Bowker would have liked to have back, but at that point, it didn’t exactly help the Huskies, as the score was 7-0 prior to the goal. Blair Karasiuk and John Apsassin picked up the assists on the goal, that was countered by two more King goals in the final two minutes of the second period.

Both teams had troubles staying out of the box all game long, with the Huskies spending 44 minutes in the sin bin, while Grande Prairie spent 28 minutes in the box. Dayne Pederson and Connor Rose both received 10 minute misconducts in the final period of play, which only featured one goal for the Kings. The Kings fired 19 shots on net in the second period, in which 8 of them beat the Huskies netminders. Ty Gullickson relieved the efforts of Travis Mclean midway through the second, after Mclean allowed 7 goals  on 30 shots. The Huskies fired just 29 shots toward the Grande Prairie net, while the Kings had 50 shots by nights end.

The Huskies, who now sit at 0-2-0-0, will not meet with the 4-0-0-0 Kings until December 3rd, when they travel to the Coca-Cola Centre for the last time in the 2011/2012 season. The Kings will visit the ‘Dog Pound’ two more times this season, on January 14th, and February 11th.

The next Huskies home game is Friday, October 7th at 8:00 PM as they play host to the Sexsmith Vipers. The following night, both teams will meet again in Sexsmith for a rematch, at 8:00 local time. That game can be heard on 100.1 Moose FM beginning at 6:45 with the pre-game show, while the puck is set to drop at 7:00 from the Sexsmith Arena.
