Leaders in the Peace Region have all pointed out the city’s lack of skilled workers to fill the growing number of available positions.

Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, says this partnership will help.

“Forestry and mining are key sectors in the B.C. Jobs Plan and this new partnership will allow us to better reach out to the workers in these industries and provide essential skills upgrading. This new pilot is an important step in meeting the challenge of ensuring we have the skilled workers needed to fill existing and future job opportunities in
northern B.C.”

Over the next 18 months, $2.9 billion will be provided for the program. The pilot is intended to offer training in key areas such as language and literacy training, technology upgrades, numeracy and document use. Training will be provided through local service providers through USW.
