The Kids Arena, currently undergoing a $500,000 makeover to renovate the once ice arena into an indoor field house, will not be open by the scheduled date of October 24, 2011.

According to Co-Chair of the Kids Arena Fieldhouse Committee Trevor Bolin, issues regarding the shipping of equipment are contributing factors to the delay. He says the committee is working hard to try to overcome these setbacks and now have to meet with the facility’s user groups in order to find an alternate location to host community sporting events in the meantime.

He also says the delays will not have a significant effect on the project’s budget.

The official opening of the new and improved Kids Fieldhouse Arena has now been scheduled for Jan.2, 2012, but could potentially happen on an earlier date. The City expects the facility to be open for drop-in programs before the scheduled opening date and will inform the public when these opportunities become available.

Improvements to the facility include a new artificial turf and grass surface, new retrofitted boards, new netting, heating units and improvements to the facility’s lighting system.
