Four incumbent Fort John councillors, Trevor Bolin, Bruce Christensen, Dan Davies and Larry Evans, have all indicated they’ll be seeking re-elelction.
Incumbent Don Irwin will also run again this fall, but at last word was undecided whether or not to seek another term on council or join the mayoralty race. Councillor Lori Ackerman is also considered a serious, but as yet undeclared, mayoralty candidate. She will be making an announcement tomorrow and incumbent mayor Bruce Lantz has indicated he’s leaning toward seeking a second term.
In Taylor, Mayor Fred Jarvis, who was re-elected in 2008 by acclamation, is running again and says he’s hoping for some competition this year. Councillor Betty Ponto has also indicated she’ll seek another term, but both Brad Filmer and George Barber, at last word, had not yet made a final decision. David Bigcharles hasn’t as yet been available for comment on his plans.
However, in the Peace River Regional District, Area “B” and “C” directors Karen Goodings and Arthur Hadland do have plans to seek another term. Area “D’s” Wayne Heibert is still listed among the undecided and Area “E” director Tim Caton, after serving for more than two decades as as a director or alternate, has opted for retirement.
Nomination papers will be received from 9:00 tomorrow morning until 4 p.m. on October 14th.
Anyone interested in running, or who wants more information on the election, is invited to attend “Candidate 101” tonight at City Hall Council Chambers at 7:00 p.m. For more information on the upcoming municipal elections call Janet Prestley, Chief Election Officer or Grace Fika, Deputy Chief Election Officer at (250) 787-8150.
