Two people arrested after high speed chase

On September 3, shortly after 7 p.m., members of the RCMP’s Peace Region Traffic Services started a pursuit of a black pick-up truck.  The truck was traveling in excess of 160 km/h on Highway 97 north of Dawson Creek.

As the suspect vehicle entered Dawson Creek city limits, detachment members initiated a series of road blocks to prevent the pursuit from entering busy streets.

The 19 year-old male driver abandoned the truck in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn and fled on foot with is 16 year-old female passenger.

Both were arrested with help from eye witnesses in the area.

The driver will have a bail hearing before a Justice of the Peace on September 4.  He is charged with a variety of offences which include dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, flight from police, assault with a weapon and possession.

The RCMP would like to thank those who assisted in locating the suspects.  If members of the public have any more information about this event, they can contact North Peace Traffic Services at 250-787-8100.
