Today is the 7th annual Cops For Cancer Jail ‘N’ Bail fundraiser.

Well known Fort St. John residents are being “arrested” and brought to a mock jail set up in Totem Mall.

The “Persons of Interest” have to raise their bail money before they can be released.

Bail is set at a minimum of $300.

The fundraiser is organized by local RCMP officers annually to raise money for the Cops for Cancer Tour de North bike ride.

All bail money will be donated to Cancer Research.

By 11:00 a.m. eight people had been arrested and $1150 had been raised.

Last year’s event raised over $23,000.

Friends, family members and co-workers can still nominate someone to be arrested.

Those interested can pick up a “warrant” from the mall or call the RCMP at 250-787-8140.

The Tour de North kicks off Friday, Sept. 9 starting in Fort St. John and ends in Williams Lake on the 15th.

Four Fort St. John RCMP officers will be taking part: Constables Shawn Ingham, Josh Smith and Josh Martyn as well as Inspector Pat Egan.
