The City of Fort St. John is warning residents in the Matthews Park area not to use water unless it is absolutely essential.

The City says because of the previous rainfall event two weeks ago water is not draining into the already saturated ground, but instead into the city sewer system.

Fort St. John is not expected to receive an overly significant amount of rain, but City officials have said they are keeping in touch with Environment Canada and the Provincial Emergency Program in case the forecast changes.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the South Peace and the Peace River Regional District issued an evacuation alert, yesterday, for certain areas, including Tomslake, One Island Lake and Kelly Lake.
