The regional district is responding to a weather warning issued by Environment Canada this afternoon advising that the area could see between 80 to 115 millimetres between Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon, which could cause flooding in low-lying areas and areas near watercourses.

An evacuation alert has been issued to prepare residents to evacuate their premises or properties should it become necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation – however, limited notice may have to be given due to changing conditions. Those who have concerns for their safety or the safety of their neighbours should call the regional district 24-hours-a-day at 250-784-3200.

Stay tuned to this website and other local media for more information.

Upon notification of an alert, you should prepare for the evacuation order by:

Locating all family members or co-workers and designating a reception centre outside the evacuation area, should an evacuation be called while separated.

Gathering essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (i.e. insurance), immediate care needs for dependants, and if you choose, keepsakes (photographs, etc.). Have these items readily available for quick departure.

Preparing to move any disabled persons and/or children.

Moving pets and livestock to a safe area.

Arranging to transport your household members or co-workers in the event of an evacuation order. If you need transportation assistance from the area please call 250-784-3200.

Arranging accommodation for your family if possible. In the event of an evacuation order, reception centres will be opened if required.

Monitoring news sources for information on evacuation orders and locations of reception centres.

Further information will be issued by the regional district at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8.
