After a record-breaking rainfall event, the City of Dawson Creek is cleaning up.

Mayor Mike Bernier says most of the water from the Dawson Creek, which runs through the middle of town, had receded by Monday morning.

Although some low-lying areas are experiencing pools of water, Bernier says there is no longer any risk of flooding.

However, he says the rain did cause a significant amount of flooding to some houses and certain roads near the community were damaged.

Although the full extent of any infrastructure damage is not yet known, Dawson Creek is joining other communities in the Peace by applying to the Provincial Emergency Program. Nevertheless, Bernier is crediting recent infrastructure replacements for diminishing the threat of further damage.

Bernier is also urging anyone who requires information or assistance to contact the City of Dawson Creek at 250-784-3600.
