The Peace River Region is receiving $32.2 million from the Province as part of the FairShare Memorandum of Understanding.
The money will be divided between municipalities in the northeast and act as ‘grants-in-lieu’- for communities in the area’ since they cannot often access funds from industries outside their tax base.
Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm says the money provides a needed enhancement to communities that contribute significantly to the provincial economy.
The northeast is guaranteed at least $20 million per year under FairShare and is provided to the Peace River Regional District. Municipalities are then able to use the money for infrastructure improvements.
The current agreement is valid until 2020.
