Prominent Canadian broadcaster and Rhodes Scholar Rex Murphy has been announced as the opening speaker for the 2011 Oil and Gas conference being held in Fort Nelson in September.

Murphy will be the key speaker at the opening banquet on Sept. 7.

He is known for his humour, wit and his sharp political commentary.

A native of Newfoundland, Murphy currently writes a column for the Globe and Mail and hosts a weekly radio show on CBC called Cross Country Checkup. He has also just released a book titled Canada and Other Matters of Opinion.

The conference will be held in Fort Nelson from Sept. 7-9.
