A large crane truck overturned on Highway 97 about 11 o’clock Sunday morning, approximately 90 kilometers south of Chetwynd.

The Chetwynd RCMP reports the driver lost control while travelling down a steep hill and collided with a cement barrier.

At that point the truck overturned and travelled several hundred more feet, before coming to a stop.

The driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken first to Mackenzie and then to Prince George hospital.

Several people stopped at the accident scene before emergency crews arrived. The Chetwynd RCMP believe without the help of other motorists, the victim would have suffered further injuries.

At last report the highway was still only open to single lane traffic and police say it will likely be late today before both lanes are reopened.
