The death of a Fort Nelson man has resulted in a scheduled inquest.

Jerry Louis Burke, a 51 year old Fort Nelson resident, fell and struck his head while police served a warrant for his arrest. The injury, despite treatment at the Fort Nelson Hospital and the University of Edmonton Hospital, resulted in his death on June 13, 2010.

The inquest is scheduled to take place from May 31 until June 3, 2011 at the Fort Nelson Provincial Courthouse, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Coroner Shane DeMeyer and a jury will be presented evidence from witnesses to determine and make public the facts surrounding Burke’s death.

An inquest is a formal court proceeding which allows for the public presentation of all evidence related to a death.
