Concern over hunting within community pastures was one topic discussed at Thursday’s Peace River Regional District meeting.

The issue specifically involves whether or not hunters should be granted permission to hunt on the open pastures of community cattlemen within the Peace Region.

Dale Morgan, the regional executive director of the Ministry of Forest, Lands & Natural Resource Operations, gave the presentation to the Board.

Morgan says the main issue is the risk of hunters shooting cattle, but feels that the concern is not an overall crisis.

He says the concerns are a low priority in the Ministry and it has not entered into discussions with the community. However, he says one community pasture should be open during the hunting season as a test to record the results.

According to Morgan, the fist step after the test season would be to meet with the people in charge of the community pastures to discuss the matter.

No such meeting has been scheduled yet.
