Last week's snowfall nearly 4 times April average

The final unofficial numbers are in from last week’s snowstorms in the Peace Region.

The local airport recorded just over 40 centimeters of snow, which is nearly four times the April average.

It also recorded just over 40 millimeters of precipitation, which is more than double the full monthly norm.

For the year, the revised Environnment Canada totals are…177.9 centimeters of snow…and 178 millimeters of precipitation.

Therefore, with two weeks left to go in April, another 15 centimeters will double the 96.4 snowfall average, for the first four months of the year.

However, in terms of precipitation we’ve already doubled the 88.1 millimeter norm for the same four month period.

In addition, this year’s snowfall total is now more than triple, the four month total last year…when the local airport recorded only 57.2 centimeters for the period, and only a trace in the month of April.
