The Peace River Regional District has elected to begin discussions regarding billboard signs adjacent to provincial highways.
At Thursday’s Peace River Regional District Meeting, Area C Director Arthur Hadland presented a recommendation to begin discussing banning billboards from those areas.
Two topics were brought up relating to the billboards, visual pollution and road safety.
Hadland says the abundance of signs is an “eyes sore to the community and there are other ways to develop income rather than cluttering the highways.”
He says there are other methods for companies to advertise and, therefore, there is no need to diminish the drive into Peace River communities.
Area E Director Tim Caton responded to the recommendation, saying that he would rather see signs be regulated rather than banned.
The recommendation was voted on, with the majority ruling in favour of discussing the billboard issue in the future.
