The Fort St. John Big Brothers Big Sisters have received a generous donation from a local business.

On Monday morning, the Fort St. John Canadian Tire store, in partnership with Canadian Tire’s Jump Start Foundation, donated a 2011 Honda Odyssey mini van to the nonprofit organization, worth $40,000.

Executive Director Danielle Armstrong says the new van will provide an improved transportation option for the agency, allowing it to meet the needs of children in Fort St. John, as well as neighboring communities, such as Charlie Lake.

Along with making the donation, the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Sports Funding says it has increased its 2011 community budget by more than $2,300. Its 2011 budget is now more than $7,300.

Any residents interested in accessing these funds to help with the cost of registration, purchasing equipment or paying for transportation is encouraged to call the Big Brothers Big Sisters office at 250-787-9674.

Canadian Tire store owner Ross Bannerman says how proud he is of the program and how 100 per cent of the funds it raises go to kids within the community.
