Unemployment rate drops in Northeastern BC

The unemployment rate in northeastern B.C. dropped by 1 per cent in March.

The unemployment rate in the region is currently sitting at 8.1 per cent which is a 1.0 per cent drop from February 2011.

B.C. Stats reports the unemployment rate is high for this time of year since the rate was only 4.6 per cent in March of 2010. The current rate puts our region with the third lowest unemployment rate in province behind Victoria at 6.4 per cent and the Cariboo at 7.6 per cent.

Abbotsford-Mission has the highest unemployment in the province at 10.8 per cent.

The province as a whole saw a jump in the unemployment rate from 8.3 per cent to 8.7 per cent.
