Local non-profits get gaming grants

Non-profit organizations in Fort St. John have received funding from community gaming grants, totaling almost $80,000.

The grants will go to support 13 human and social service community organizations within the city and is part of a $33 million payment to thousands of non-profit organizations around the province.

According to the B.C. Government, the province continually looks for ways to support families within B.C. and the human social sector. This includes the distribution of unallocated funds where they are needed most.

According to Communications Officer Ryan Shotton, these “bonus” grants, awarded from unallocated funds, help provide these organizations with extra funding in between regularly scheduled grants, which usually are granted twice a year.

Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm, says “the people of Fort St. John depends on the services provided by these groups. This funding will help these organizations continue to deliver valuable programs in the community.

Along with the gaming grants, daycares will receive $2 million from unallocated funds, bringing their grants for this year up to the same level received last year.
