Support Fort St John News

The Child Development Centre’s ‘Project Build a Fort’ is getting a large boost with an extra fundraising event occurring in Fort St. John.

The CDC has been holding various fundraising events around the city and on Thursday, Moose FM will be sponsoring the annual Artech Welding and Machining Day for the Kids.

The event will take place at Pricesmart in Fort St. John and Moose FM hopes to raise $30,000 which will be donated to the CDC. Residents can donate in person, by phone at 250-787-7100 or online by clicking here.

The CDC has been trying to raise $100,000 over the past year to put towards the new building.

In February, the CDC received a $50,000 donation to put toward the Project as part of the 2010 Energy Conference’s legacy fund.

On Friday, the Centre will also be holding a talent show at the North Peace Cultural Centre beginning at 6 p.m. Anyone who attends the event is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank, the CDC’s Talent Show Co-ordinator Crystal Kalas told Issues and Answers on Wednesday.

The show will be broadcast on Moose FM starting at 6 p.m. and brought to listeners by CCT.

The Centre serves around 1,000 children annually from the Fort St. John area, offering pre-school, a Rotary Play Centre drop-in area and specialized services for children with special needs, including speech therapy, Executive Director Penny Gagnon told Issues and Answers.
