The Petroleum Association Midget Flyers are one step closer to first place, after winning both games they played over the weekend.
Saturday, the Flyers entertained Grande Prairie in Fort St. John, defeating them by a score of 3-2. It was a dominant performance by the Flyers, who out shot Grande Prairie 37-19, with the Flyers killing a five on three to close out the game.
Saturday’s player of the game honour belonged to Flyers forward Blair Karasiuk, as he was involved in all three Flyer goals with two goals and one assist. Cayle Bell also played well, scoring once and chipping in with an assist.
Sunday, the Flyers traveled to Fairview, in a game that could potentially see them move into a tie for first. The tight game was full of excitement, with Cayle Bell scoring the game winning goal, his second of the night, with only three seconds left in the game.
Saturday, Ty Helgason got the win in net and on Sunday, Ryan Beuckert earned the win in between the pipes.
The two wins for the Flyers puts them in a tie for first place with Fairview, setting the stage for a first place showdown this Sunday at the Pomeroy Sports Centre.
Sunday’s game will begin at 4 p.m.
