A merger involving the takeover of the proposed Babkirk Secure Landfill north of Fort St. John, has caught the eye of the Federal Competition Bureau, and it doesn’t like what it sees.
In fact, it has applied to the Competition Tribunal for an order to dissolve the acquisition, of Complete Environmental Incorporated, by CCS Corporation.
Last February, Complete Environmental obtained regulatory approval to convert Babkirk, located about 130 kilometers north of Fort St. John, into a secure landfill.
Now the Bureau is concerned that CCS, the owner of the only other two such landfills in the province, is attempting to dodge competition with the takeover.
The Competition Bureau is an independent law enforcement agency with the responsibility of ensuring, that Canadian businesses and consumers prosper in a competitive and innovative marketplace.
This is the first merger challenge it has filed since 2005, and in a news release dated Wednesday {January 26th} it said, it’s application will be available shortly on the Competition Tribunal’s website.
