UPDATE #4 – Collision north of Mile 54

UPDATE #4 – As of 7pm, the Alaska Highway is now open in both directions at Mile 60.  There is still a travel advisory in affect for all the major roads in the Peace Region.

UPDATE #3 – The Ministry of Transportation now states the highway at Mile 60, should re-open at 7:30pm Sunday night.

UPDATE #2 – The RCMP have released a few details on the accident.  The incident happened at approximately 1:10pm and invovled three vehicles.  When the RCMP arrived on scene, ambulance and fire crews were already there.

They state that two people have suffered serious undisclosed injuries.  They have also confirmed the Highway is now closed in both directions at Mile 60.  Again there is supposed to be a detour in place around the incident, according to the Ministry of Transport.  The Ministry states the highway could re-open by 9pm, but that is an early estimate and could change.

The rescue crews are on the scene of a collision just north of Mile 54 on the Alaska Highway.

As of 1:30pm, the highway is still open in the area, but the road has been reduced to single lane alternating traffic.

At this time we don’t have any information about the individuals involved in the collision.
