False alarm in missing man sighting

Grande Prairie RCMP have now confirmed that a male who was selling dream catchers and wind chimes in the city was not a missing person from B.C.

Police say the male was located in Fairview, Alta. They say they identified the male and determined it was not a missing man from Grand Forks, B.C.

Police in Grand Forks have been searching for a missing 24 year-old Australian man. Owen Kiernan Rooney had been reported missing after he left the Grand Forks Hospital on Aug. 14.

There had been reports of someone matching Rooney’s description selling dream catchers around parts of B.C.

Back in November, RCMP received a report of three males in their early twenties selling dream catchers in Nanaimo. One of the males apparently resembled Rooney.

Police say the majority of sightings have been around Cranbrook and Kimberley, B.C.
