Unemployment rate sits at 7.6% in the Northeast

ʉ۬The unemployment rate in Northeastern BC remained steady in October.

The unemployment rate in our region is currently sitting at 7.6 per cent which is the same as September 2010.

That number is slightly higher than October of 2009 when the unemployment rate in the Northeast was 7.2 per cent.

Vancouver Island/Coast has the lowest unemployment rate in the province at 6.1 per cent. The highest unemployment rate in the province belongs to the Kootenays at 9.4 per cent.

The province as a whole saw a small decrease to 7.4 per cent from 7.7 per cent in September.

BC still lags behind the rest of the Western provinces, Manitoba 5.2 per cent, Saskatchewan 5.7 per cent, Alberta 6.2 per cent and the national rate sits at 7.9 per cent.
