The province is pumping another $1.6 million into the English as a Second Language Settlement Assistance Program.

The MLA for Peace River North Pat Pimm says $78,000 of that money is coming to the region.

Northern Lights College will receive $40,000 for programs in the Fort St. John area and $38,000 in the Fort Nelson area.

The money will go towards programs set up through the Fort St. John Literacy Society and the Fort Nelson Community Literacy Society.

The initiative provides free English language support programs to immigrants and refugees, which are offered through Welcome BC.

Since 2008, more than $100 million dollars in senior government funding has been invested into English language development services.
