School District providing support after deadly accident

School district 60 officials are offering counselling to students and staff at the two schools affected by the deaths of an educational assistant and a student.

A 49 year-old Educational Assistant at Clearview Elem/Jr Secondary and a 17 year-old student at North Peace Secondary School were involved in a head-on collision Monday morning.

The collision occurred on the Cecil Lake Road about 10 km east of Cecil Lake.

Superintendent Larry Espe says providing support to teachers is extremely important in this type of situation since teachers are usually the ones to answer student questions about the accident.

He adds that, for many students, it can be the first time they have faced this type of grief.

Counsellors are also on hand to provide individual support for anyone who requires it.

Espe says the devastating situation can be especially difficult for people in this type of small, close-knit community and has been personally difficult for him since he used to work with the EA while he was the principal at Clearview.
