The federal New Democrats are apparently increasing the pressure on Stephen Harper to call a by-election for the Prince George-Peace River riding.

NDP Deputy Leader Libby Davies accused the Harper government today in the House of Commons of “hiding from local voters… enraged by the Harper-Campbell HST.”

Lois Boone declared last week that she would be running for the party’s nomination in the region.

The former Deputy NDP Premier of B.C has said the region needs representation since former Member of Parliamen Jay Hill stepped down Oct. 25.

Six people have already declared their intent to run for the riding’s Conservative candidate nomination.

According to Elections Canada regulations, the Prime Minister has nearly six months to call a by-election from the time an MP stops representing a riding.
