Fort St. John has appointed a new fire chief, well at least for one day.
Logan Reid was the lucky winner of the Fort St. John ‘Fire Chief for the Day’ contest put on by the local fire department. Logan is a grade three student at CM Finch Elementary School. He submitted a poster that reflected this year’s fire prevention week theme, "Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with."
The poster was to be based on what he had learned from a presentation his class was given about fire safety.
Fire Prevention Officer Gregg Nicoll says that the students earned points for all the fire prevention items that were shown in their posters. Logan’s poster was the winner because he included smoke alarms, two exits and a meeting place.
Logan was picked up from his house by a firetruck, driven to school and escorted to his classroom. He was then picked up at lunch, along with his best friend Morgan Fraser, and then taken to school where they had lunch at the fire department along with City Councillors and Mayor Bruce Lantz.
He was taken back to school and then will be given a tour of the city and get a ride back home in the fire truck.
