The Fort St. John Senior ‘AAA’ Flyers lost their first game of the season on Saturday, in Grande Prairie, against the Athletics, 5-4 in a shootout.
Grande Praire opened the scoring with a powerplay goal 12 minutes into the period. They scored another shortly into the second to go up 2-0. The Flyers were able to take over shortly after that, scoring three straight goals in the second to put them up 3-2 heading into the third period.
Grande Prairie quickly responded in the third scoring just over three minutes in, once again on the powerplay, to knot the game 3-3. Fort St. John responded just over 30 seconds later to restore their lead at 4-3. Grande Prairie was able to tie it up less than two minutes later.
Nothing would get solved in regulation or overtime, so the teams headed to a shootout. Grande Prairie was able to win the shootout to take a 5-4 victory in the game.
Next up for the Flyers they head to Hythe on Thursday to play the Mustangs.
