Denny Morrison wins 1000 metre event in Calgary

 

Fort St. John’s Denny Morrison stole the show in the 1,000 metre event on day 1 of the Autumn World Cup National Selections at the Calgary Oval.

The Olympic gold medalist raced the 1,000 metre event in a time of 1:08.46 beating Alberta’s Jamie Gregg and Quebec’s Philippe Riopel.

Five male and five female skaters are eligible to skate the 1,000m distance in the upcoming Fall World Cup. On Friday, the skaters, including Morrison, will race the 1,500m event.

The Canadian Selections for the Fall World Cup will come to a close on Sunday. The team will then be announced by the Long Track Speed Skating High Performance Committee after they meet to finalize the selections next week.
