Council approves Don Irwin's leave of absence

Fort St. John City Council has approved Councilor Don Irwin’s request for a two-month leave of absence.

Irwin requested the leave to focus on his bid for the Conservative Nomination in the Prince George – Peace River riding. Irwin made the request during City Council on Tuesday and it was approved unanimously.

While he is on leave, the three committees in his portfolio will be allocated to other councilors. Mayor Bruce Lantz noted that the dispersal of his duties will be decided shortly.

The current Member of Parliament Jay Hill will be stepping down on Oct. 25. Five people have thus far put forward their names for the nomination, including Irwin’s fellow City Councilor Dan Davies.
