Hit and run accused known to victim's family

The man accused in the hit and run death of Nora Gallifer is known to her family.

Gerry Lefleur has been charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Disqualified in the 87 year-old woman’s death on Sept. 29.

He is accused of driving the pick-up truck that backed into Gallifer, pinning her against her husband’s vehicle.

Lefleur’s family has been friends with Gallifer’s family for several years, says Connie Greyeyes, Gallifer’s niece. Greyeyes says that knowing the accused makes it more difficult than if the person had been a stranger.

Greyeyes says it’s a very painful situation for her family and there’s only one thing that her family wants from Lefleur.

Lefleur was set to appear in court this afternoon to have a disposition date set.

At a disposition hearing the accused can enter a plea or the Crown can decide to stay the charges.
