Open burning allowed across Fire Centre

Due to a couple of weeks of damp conditions, open burning is now permitted across the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

However, the B.C. forest service is reminding the public that burn piles should be less than two metres high and three metres wide, unless a burn registration number has been obtained.

Campfires are also permitted, but must be less than 0.5m in both height and width. Anyone lighting a campfire must ensure there is a shovel or a minimum of eight litres of water close by to put it out.

However, the rescinded ban does not apply inside city boundaries which have their own burning bylaws.

Fort St. John does not currently have a fire ban in effect.

To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, please call *5555 on your cellphone or toll-free to 1 800 663-5555.
