About 185 employees at Canfor’s lumber operation in Clear Lake, that’s near Prince George, will be out of work in four months.
The company is closing that operation in January, in order to boost its net income for the third quarter by 12 million dollars.
The company says the prolonged downturn in US home construction, and a lack of cheap long-term wood supply, led to the decision.
President Jim Shepard says the company will try to move impacted employees, to other Canfor operations.
