As a list of 18 B.C. MLAs that will be targeted under the recall campaign has been released, a future campaign could include the MLA for Peace River North.

Pat Pimm has been listed on the potential recall list, says Alvin Stedel, the regional co-ordinator for the Fight HST campaign.

Stedel says Pimm could be included on the next round of potential recalls depending on what happens with the HST referendum and whether it occurs ahead of the date currently set for September 2011.

According to Stedel, to be able to recall Pimm, organizers would have to collect 9,180 signatures, which accounts for approximately 40 per cent of the total number of registered voters in the riding.

That number of signatures would also have to be collected within a 60 day time period, which is why he says they don’t want to begin collecting signatures until next spring since volunteers would likely go door-to-door.

All signatures must then be verified before Pimm could be recalled.

He says that he doesn’t foresee much of a problem in getting the required number of signatures since campaigners collected more than double the required number for the Fight HST campaign. They had been required to collect slightly more than 3,300, whereas they ended up collecting approximately 8,300.

Stedel says that if Pimm is recalled, he would be required to immediately step down and a bi-election would have to be held in the Peace River North riding. He adds that any MLA that is recalled can certainly run for their seat again, but that their chances of winning would probably be slim.
