OGC reports reduced flaring

The B.C. Oil and Gas Commission has released a report on flaring levels across the province.

The report shows that in 2009, there was a 30 per cent reduction in the total amount of flaring over 2008 levels.

The B.C Energy Plan has already set reduction targets to be met over time. The short-term goal is to reduce routine flaring at wells and production facilities by 50 per cent by 2011. The final long-term goal is set to eliminate any scheduled flaring by 2016.

The Commission reports that although production increased by 40 per cent over a 13 year period, the “amount of gas flared per unit of natural gas production” dropped 54 per cent.

The OGC’s 2009 full report on Flaring, Incinerating and Venting Reduction Report is available below.
