Travis Edward Vader is now officially considered a suspect in the McCann disappearance.
The RCMP have announced that Vader is considered a suspect in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie Ann McCann, both in their late 70s.
He had previously been considered a person of interest – someone who may have information about a crime – but has now been identified as a person who is suspected to have committed a crime.
The McCanns were reported missing on July 10 when they failed to show up at a pre-arranged place to meet family who had not heard from them since July 3.
They had been driving a white gulfstream motorhome, which was found burned on July 5, and also had a light green Hyundai Tucson.
On July 16, the RCMP announced that they had found the Tucson between Edson and Niton in Alberta.
Vader was arrested on July 19 on outstanding warrants.
He had previously been arrested in Jan. 2009 in Fort Nelson for several charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the Edson RCMP at 780-723-8800, the St. Albert Detachment at 780-458-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
